CURRICULUM & PHILOSOPHY


#1. ELEMENTARY ART CURRICULUM

Building Blocks

The Elementary Visual Arts program introduces the building blocks of art and design. Students will start to recognize elements and principles within art compositions.

The art compositions presented in class will come from a variety of cultures and artists. Students will produce projects in pencil, color pencil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, paper sculpture, mixed media, and clay.

Biblical

Each project is centered in a Biblical application with a discussion on worldview influences.  

Keepsakes & Art Show

Each year, students can create an “Art to Remember” keepsake that can be reproduced on a catalog item.

Students also showcase their best works in the annual BCS Art Show that takes place immediately following the Spring Music Concert.


#2. MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL ART 

KNOWLEDGEABLE CRITIQUING

The Middle School and High School Visual Arts program utilizes the student’s knowledge of elements and principles by critiquing art compositions. Students will engage in an artistic vocabulary about the merits of a variety of artwork.

The critique process will increase their ability to judge their own work.

The artwork presented will come from a variety of artists, styles and mediums.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT 

Students will produce projects in pencil, color pencil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, paper sculpture, wire, mixed media and clay. Students are continuing to develop their artist techniques and self-expression.

ART HISTORY & CULTURE

Students are discovering the importance of Art History and how relates to world with investigation of different cultures, and eras. They learn to appreciate a variety of famous artists’ artworks and personally begin to explore and develop their own artist expression.

BIBLICAL

Projects are selected to help students engage with and reflect a Biblical world view.

Students are encouraged to share their gifts God has given them through a variety of venues; Hendricks County Art Council Contest, Annual Bethesda Art Show, Congressional Art Competition and the Hendricks County fair.



#3. AP STUDIO ART

ART PORTFOLIO

AP Studio Art allows students the opportunity to build an art portfolio and aids in practical experience for future art related fields.

COLLEGE ADMISSIONS

AP Studio Art also provides Upper School students preparations for the college admissions process and promotes high quality work and growth through artistic investigation.

MUSEUM OF ART

The class will visit The IMA after they have submitted their portfolios to the College Board.
